NARAL Pro-Choice New Hampshire Applauds Defeat of HB 399 - Mandatory “Reflection Period” for Women Seeking Abortion
CONCORD - Today, the New Hampshire House of Representatives voted on HB 399-FN, legislation that would mandate specific information to be given to women seeking abortions, and would also require that women observe a 24-hour reflection period before an abortion. Providers who fail to comply with the extensive requirements would face a felony conviction. Some of the information mandated includes the medically unfounded link between abortion and an increased rate of breast cancer. The House voted down the measure 207-113. Statement of NARAL Pro-Choice New Hampshire Political Director, Liza Dube“NARAL Pro-Choice New Hampshire believes that women deserve complete and medically accurate information about all medical procedures including abortion. We also believe that abortion is a decision that no woman comes to without weighing her options; women are fully capable of making thoughtful decisions regarding their own health care without state mandated “reflection periods”. We are happy to see that the legislature agrees that the provisions of HB 399 are not in the best interest of women’s health, but rather an attempt to interfere in the provider/patient relationship and create access barriers in order to intimidate women from exercising their constitutional right to choose”
