NARAL Pro-Choice New Hampshire Expresses Concern over Abstinence-Only Legislation
CONCORD – Today the New Hampshire House Education committee heard testimony regarding legislation that would mandate abstinence-only education in public schools. The bill would dictate that all public schools in the state that teach sex education emphasize that abstinence is the “expected norm”. Liza Dube, Political Director for NARAL Pro-Choice New Hampshire spoke out in opposition to the bill. “While NARAL Pro-Choice New Hampshire supports abstinence as one component of a well rounded and effective sex education program, we believe that young people deserve complete and medically accurate information about sexual health, including abstinence, pregnancy prevention and STD/HIV prevention. Only when teens are given balanced information about their options, can they make appropriate and responsible decisions.”
