Status:  The House voted ITL on 3/13 (236-79) bill killed. Public Hearing, February 14, 2008 at 10:00 am in room 208 at the Legislative Office Building. This bill was introduced on January 2, 2008 and referred to Judiciary Committee.

Limits access to abortion, discounts women's ability to make personal decisions, imposes significant burdens on abortion providers.
AN ACT relative to adult involvement for minors seeking abortions.

Bill Number:  SB527 [ view bill ]
Status:  On 3/20 OTPA failed on a vote of 10-14 then the Senate voted Interim Study. This bill was introduced on January 17, 2008 and referred to the Health and Human Services Committee. There is a hearing scheduled for February 19, 2008 at 10:15 am in Room 100 at the State House.

Requires counseling before abortion (but not for adoption or parenting). Does not allow counselors currently providing such pre-abortion counseling to continue and mandates counseling by other licensed professionals who may not have experience or training in pregnancy counseling.
AN ACT relative to notification of a parent or guardian by medical professionals when treating a minor

Status:  House voted ITL on 3/12 (207-111) bill killed. This bill was introduced on January 2, 2008 and referred to the Judiciary Committee. There will be a public hearing on February 14, 2008 at 1:00 pm in Room 208 of the Legislative Office Building.

Requires parental notification for any medical treatment. Would revoke current statutes allowing minors to receive, without parental notification, medical treatment for sexually transmitted infections, drug and alcohol abuse counseling, mental health issues, or for any medical care if the provider deems the minor is mature.

Makes it a felony for a medical provider to perform an abortion where "there is a reasonable expectation of viability". No exception for the health or life of the mother.
